How much does a liter of fuel cost today?
price newsTankslim
Current average fuel prices in the Netherlands:
- Euro 95 (E10)
- € 2.427
- Super Plus 98 (E5)
- € 2.759
- Diesel (B7)
- € 2.452
- LPG
- € 0.991
These prices fluctuate daily in line with the price of oil and the dollar exchange rate. Fuel is traded in dollars, so a weaker euro makes refueling more expensive, even if the price of oil remains unchanged.
But you don't fill up at the average price
This is the figure missing from most price reports: the difference between the cheapest and most expensive gas station in the Netherlands is greater than most of the price fluctuations covered in the news.
An unmanned station on a provincial road and a highway service station with a shop and car wash sell exactly the same fuel. The price difference lies in the location and the level of service, not in what comes out of the nozzle.
For forty liters, that difference is over sixteen euros. Per fill-up. Anyone refueling weekly is looking at hundreds of euros a year.
Why diesel is more expensive than petrol
A striking detail in the table above: diesel costs more than Euro 95. That is historically unusual—for years, diesel was the cheaper choice. Since last summer, the tables have turned due to higher demand for diesel and heating oil heading into winter, while demand for petrol drops after the summer season.
LPG remains by far the cheapest per liter, although consumption per hundred kilometers is higher.
Finding the cheapest station today
The average price tells you what is happening nationwide. What you pay depends on where you stop. Tankslim shows current prices for nearly four thousand Dutch gas stations—near you, or along the route you are already driving, including the cost of any detour required to get there.
